The Méhari took the Spartan concept already evident in the 2CV to the extreme. It was, in fact, one of the most basicly equipped cars ever made. The doors were initially made of canvas with transparent vinyl windows. The rear seats could be removed, leaving room for a large loading platform (approximately 1.2 m²) capable of carrying up to 400 kg.
The Azur version was initially planned as a limited run of 700 units but was later integrated into the "normal" range due to its great success. The Azur was distinguished from other Méharis by its white body with blue doors, grille, and hood. The seats were upholstered in blue and white striped fabric.
