Born as Project 939, the new Spider was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006, where it was elected Cabrio of the Year 2006 just a few days after its official debut by a jury of 23 journalists from 12 European countries. The overall design derives from that of the Brera, designed by Giugiaro, but the rear of this cabriolet is clearly distinct from the closed version thanks to extensive remodeling by Pininfarina: unlike the Brera, it has two seats and a canvas soft top that can be folded electrically in 25 seconds.
