On the streets of Duchy of Parma, we will discover castles, fortresses, food, wine and music.

It starts from Parma, ancient capital of the Duchy, where we will receive the classic spider car; going north towards the river Po, we meet the village of Colorno, famous for the important and magnificent Royal Palace of Colorno, elegant and monumental architectural structure with over 400 rooms, courtyards and patios. The Palace is surrounded by a beautiful landscaped garden and was once inhabited by the Sanseverino, the Farnese, by the Bourbons and Maria Luigia of Austria

Next stop San Secondo Parma, famous for the delicious plate “cooked shoulder”, where we meet the Rocca dei Rossi: first medieval fortress and then the Renaissance residence, was inhabited by one of the most illustrious families of Parma: The Reds.

We proceed in the direction of Fontanellato, where you should stop and visit the magnificent Rocca San Vitale that rises in the center of the village, surrounded by a large moat filled with water. Into the Sanvitale Fortress of Fontanellato, can be visited the only Optical Chamber still in use in Italy. 

We continue our tour through Parma, getting along the way to the Rocca Meli Lupi di Soragna, the splendid and magnificent residence of the Meli Lupi princes who still live there. 

SWe are now reaching Verdi's land, the places that have given birth to the Maestro Giuseppe Verdi: to Roncole Verdi you can visit the birthplace of the Master while at Busseto a Theatre is dedicated to the great musician, located inside the stronghold Pallavicino. 

 

Reaching the territory of the Piacentino we meet the imposing Castle of St. Peter in Cerro, an XIV structure that is entirely visited. It hosts the Museum in Motion, a collection of over a thousand works of contemporary masters, Italian and foreign, exhibited in rotation. In the basement you can see the permanent exhibition of the terracotta army of Xi'an warriors

Crossing the Via Emilia, we drive in the direction of Piacenza hills and specifically in the green Val Vezzeno and reach the Castle of Gropparello, from the VIII century, rises above a spur of green serpentine, overlooking the river. In the surrounding forest we can find the “Fairy Tale Park”, magical and fun place for the little ones.

Proceeding along the hilly streets of Piacenza, we reach the beautiful town of Castell'Arquato, beautiful medieval town and art city. The monumental center of Castell’Arquato is represented by the square in the upper part of town. 

Aboard our spider vintage, then we reach the nearby Mastio and Borgo di Vigoleno, which has preserved the integrity of the Middle Ages defense system. In the square you can admire the XV-century fountain and into the center the Romanesque church of San Giorgio. 

Next stop Salsomaggiore Terme: Famous for spa tourism, famous for its waters rich with minerals, already known to the ancient Romans and Celts, but whose curative properties were discovered only in 1839 by the doctor Lorenzo Berzieri. Salsomaggiore is also famous for the vast quantity of works of the architect, painter, sculptor Liberty Galileo Chini; one of the main buildings include the Thermal Centre "Lorenzo Berzieri" and the halls of the Palace of Congresses.

From Salsomaggiore we reach back Parma, for a quick drink in the lively city center, before returning the car.

In the extended version to 3 days, from Salsomaggiore you will join with the route of the castles of the Parma hills.
