The Beetle was born as a result of Hitler’s desire to motorize the German population. In 1934 Hitler ordered Ferdinand Porsche to design a car for the average German family, it was not to exceed the consumption of 7lt per 100km, it needed to be air cooled and be able to reach and sustain a speed of 100km/h for long distances. Furthermore its cost could not exceed 1000 marks. This was the start of the Beetles adventure, a car which still today boasts the largest and longest production of any car in the world. The convertible Beetle by Karmann followed the evolution of the coupe step by step with the same modifications implemented during the same period. Production finally stopped on July 31st 1970.
