The Triumph Spitfire was the last compact car to use the spider frame, developed by the Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. It went into production at the end of 1962, after Triumph became part of the British Leyland group. It was built in the following versions:
4 with a 1147cc engine (produced from the end of 1962 to 1965)
4 MKII with a 1147cc engine (from 1965 to 1967) MKIII using a 1296cc motor (from 1967 to the end of 1970)
MKIV (from the end of 1970 to 1974)
1500 with a 1493cc engine (from 1975 to 1980)
